I remember that the older military meals, when they were still in cans, had chocolate in them. They were in big, flat, round disks. And, when you ate them, they had a very waxy texture. I don't think that they ever melted!!
But, I theorized that they were full of vitamins and such. We had some cases of them in the 70's, and I always ate the chocolate, even though they weren't like regular chocolate. I figured they were my reward for eating the less desirable meals! Some weren't bad at all, but others... And, I learned that I'm not a fan of canned Boston brown bread. Very molasses-y.
I don't remember the Pacer, either. Dh did, and got it right. Where was he that he saw them, and I didn't? Lol!
