When they opened an In 'n Out in the next town over, everyone was over the moon. They still, a couple of years later, have a steady stream of customers.
I can't think about the food places like that in the 60's without wishing I could have the food as it was then...Astro Burger's patty melt and onion rings, Nagels and Top Taco's burritos, In 'n Out, Tommy Burger's chili burger, Danny Dog's teriyaki stand, Jay's Burgers, Shelly's Burgers stand with the root beer that was served in a real glass mug that had been in the freezer, and a million others.
Have you ever noticed that burgers from those little stands usually had a rim of meat juice/salt along the edge of the bun? They would often toss the buns on the griddle for a minute, where the meat cooked. I loved that little edge, lol!
