We have had fire warnings every day and night. 105 and higher in SA and here as well.
So far NO fires! No one is to water anything, but of course my down hill friends water their yard every day. They are determined to not loose any plants.
I have water I set aside over the winter for when the well froze... I am using a juice jug of it to water the 6 small potted plants on my front porch. I have to water am & pm to keep them alive. There are 3 cactus and 3 green plants. No clue what they are. Gifts from the women next door.
Since the well won't freeze till winter I have lots of stored well water in my bathroom tub and shower stacked up in clean cat little jugs.
I use the guest bath to take showers as the shower stall off my bedroom is broken.
Good news here... the house is cool and as Boy set the temp to 70 I have been able to dial it up to 75 or higher. I also can turn the new AC off - it's in the dining room. But leave the ac in DD's bedroom set at 60. But turn the small ac in my bedroom at 70+ over night which keeps my bedroom fairly cool.
The last few days the mornings - though warm if in sunlight - have had lovely little breezes stirring the trees. All of them dance. So I have actually been able to sit on my front porch to have my coffee after walking Charlie.
That is after playing toss his ball up which he catches then lopes in a circle around the two huge Oaks just off my back porch. Once he catches the ball when I toss it he drops his ball in one of the two chairs for me to throw it again.
We have really calmed down - if he races after deer in A's acre I let him, He is off leash and I can't do much about it to make him slow down. I try verbal calls and he may walk or lope or race depending on how he is feeling. At least he is able to do his business that way.
He sleeps most of the time when he is inside. Thank heavens for the New AC. I was really frightened that I was loosing him before Boy brought it over. I was also afraid that I was having trouble myself. Scary. This house was 90+ degrees, especially my bedroom. The only room even slightly cooler was DD's. But even then only in the afternoon as it was one th East side of the house.
The sun as moved further to the south so there is a change to which area of my huge rectangle of a home... now heats up. That is why I am able to sit on my front porch in the morning but not again till later afternoon.
I have a fan or two in every room to cause circulation. The ceiling fans help but the rooms are so large I have to use 3 plus fans to cause good circulation. Thank goodness that works.
But Charlie and I can still walk my path in the afternoon or early morning... lovely out but the China Berry trees leaves are falling as large golden clouds. My entire yard is brown. The only good thing is that most of the weeds, etc have died back and space is opening between groups of them. Plus Charlie has created a couple of paths above the retaining wall. I have finally recovered enough to pull the larges bunches of weeds and wildflower growth out of the ground. That gets rid on a fair amount of fire danger. Luckily both sides of the house are gravel, less weeds and dead growth. The worst of the back yard is not safe and it could be a major fire threat. I am trying to pull out part of the worst weeds and vines, etc. But the stickers make it hard as my yard gloves are trashed. I need to buy new ones ASAP!
I think I mentioned that my down hill neighbors had a burn barrel going. Stupid people.
Well, that's it for the weather here. Most everyone is on edge re possible fires.
Knocking on wood that we stay safe and hopefully get some great rain. Of course that could cause serious flooding down hill and possible in to the edges of SA.
Take care be safe and may we all survive the weather that is ours and on into the future.
