I'm hooked in this book, though I have 2 bones to pick with the author.
1 - She called Ameraucana's 'stupid,' compared, I guess, to the other breeds in the book. After 30 years, I can say that they're actually quite clever, and it makes me wonder if she actually has ever had chickens, or just read about them.
2 - Everyone drinks. A lot. At home, in restaurants, at church services. Not a day goes by without the characters having wine, hot toddy's etc. Whoever visits gets something as soon as they walk in the door, also. It's as if it's the author's signature.
I don't personally care what other people do, especially characters, normally, but it's so often. A plain cup of tea, a lemonade, anything to break it up a little. It's just a little much, strangely so.
But, as I say about things the kids do sometimes: Not my business. Still, the way that it's written literally pulls me out of the story a bit each time.
