I drank my tea with toast for breakfast to space it away from iron-containing meals.
So, glasses of milk, ice cream, even cheese - unfortunately, and dairy-based sauces.
I used to love cottage cheese and canned fruit, so I ate it as a snack between meals, and not as a dessert after a regular meal. Same with cream cheese, which I loved. Bread and cream cheese, with a topping, was a meal of it's own. One which I could have tea with, if I wanted it.
It takes a little getting used to, combining foods, but Kara's a smart cookie and will have it down pat in no time if she wants to eat this way.
