If not, and if there's another incident, you will want to consider it, as that very thing can be very unhealthy, depending.
I know of a show boxer who was just neutered this past month for the problem. Unresolved erection is not good, and if it keeps occuring, it's best to neuter the dog.
If Roscoe is neutered, then I will just give you the advice of not letting an erection remain for any length of time without addressing it. You can discuss that with your vet, but it needs addressing, as that is not a part of the body which is supposed to be exposed to the air for long periods of time etc.
If it's any solace, it doesn't have to be caused by any scent related to procreation at all.
As long as the vet's not worried, neither would I be, unless any other things which aren't usual for him crop up; physical, or behavioral, or more incidents like this one, if they go unresolved for any length of time.
