It's The Little Things That Make Life Such A Big Deal!

Kim came over and helped me get the catheter out of Dixie's leg. It had been left in place in case an emergency arose and quick access to a vein was needed. Dr. C told me to remove it tonight. It had been very securely taped in place and was difficult to remove. I couldn't have done it myself; Kim was a huge help.
Once it was done we took her out to the front yard to give her a chance to be outside. I'll be darned if she didn't take off after a neighbor's cat! She wasn't going full speed and she stumbled several times, but she was certainly giving it a good effort. That's the end of her unleashed time in the front yard! After I caught her I took her out back, and she hobbled to the water bowl for a drink, then peed a river.
That catheter was obviously bothering her. Removing it has made a world of difference in both her physical and her emotional state. She's more alert now, and I foresee that in another day or two she's going to be hard to keep quiet. I think it helped getting the e-collar off her, too. She had to wear the "lampshade" to keep her from chewing on her cathether. So far she's leaving her other bandage alone so I've left the collar off her. I think I'll put it on her at bedtime since she could chew while I'm asleep, even though I'll be in the same room with her.
She ate all her dinner and got her antibiotic and pain meds, so everything is looking good. The danger of a clot is always in the back of my mind, but she's sure doing well now.
Thanks for your continued prayers.
