Some people thought it was silly, but I really enjoyed my plecostomus, as well. I had fishbowls first, growing up, but put one in my first tank.
I like the neons, when getting tetras, too.
The only two that I've never had, are your special goldfish. Mine were common goldfish, except for a gorgeous, long-tailed, orange and white...nearly red, that I really liked.
I've only had one Betta, and he was so personable.
My late Dbil, and Dd, both had amazing tanks. Like your Ds, all they had salt water tanks, as well as fresh water for Dd. She had a couple of enormous fish. As in, have-for-meals large.
I'd be happy with goldfish again, too.
Oh, yes! We mostly won them in baggies later on, but I remember it vividly. Luckily, we had fish bowls from when I was a baby, or maybe even before I was born, so I had a place for a fish, should one happen to come home with me from a fair. :-)
The first bowl that we had, which only had a fish or two in it, was shaped like a fish. It broke, though. I don't know if it slipped from my mother's hands when she took it down to clean it, if there was a tremor and it fell, or what, but I remember both it, and it breaking, clearly. I may have a bad photo of it. If so, I'll show it to you. :-)
