Posted by Elizabeth Feisst Now, in January 2004, having emigrated to the Isle of Man and able to continue to do research once again, I am deliberating as to how to best make the database of information which you have all so kindly contributed to over the years available online without the risk of revealing sensitive personal information which some of you may not wish to have online as you once did. In this day of personal security and safety and privacy issues being dominant, genealogists who are in the main, amateurs and doing the work for enjoyment, are finding themselves in the position of being held responsible for what is shared and therefore can potentially be sued for revealing personal information without consent of each and every living individual. With thousands of names in most genealogists databses involving much personal and private information there is a responsibility of researchers to be very careful with what they do with the information. In sharing it online, it becomes available for all and everyone to copy and link up with other genealogies and thus one looses control with what happens to the information and what others can potentially do with it. It is a very fine line. A balance in trust and cautiousness is imperative with confidentiality being considered pertinent. So while we were all delighted to see all our wonderful family online for over a year back in 2001/2002, it is now necessary for a very considered decision to be taken as to how best to place the information back on line to meet the needs and delights of the family as a whole and also privacy and confidentially considerations of those who want their information private and at the same time guard Qualtrough researchers (myself and several others)from potential legal situations. In the meantime, you are most welcome to write to me at elizabeth@qualtrough.org to obtain information from the database and if you want me to send you a file of your branch of the family electronically this can easily be done by email. Please post your comments as to how you feel about having the Qualtrough genealogies website back online once again. Kind regards

You will be aware that this sub-site to the main site was removed back in February 2003 because of a possible concern over privacy raised by a member of the family from the United States. At the time, I was still in Australia but about to leave for 6 months travelling in UK, Europe and Isle of Man, and thus had no choice but to remove the site to avoid any problems in this area.
