Posted by from Orthodox News (dcalvert) on 5/11/2007, 7:51 am Moscow, May 10, Interfax - The Russian Orthodox Church believes that it is important to encourage pilgrimage to Turkey and is ready to provide assistance. The decision to prepare experts to work with Russian pilgrims at a Kappadokya higher school was made at the first Russian-Turkish conference on culture and tourism taking place in the Turkish city of Kappadokya. "We will work together to develop a good program for religious tourists and pilgrims from Russia. We are not talking about opening a new pilgrimage route. The Russian Orthodox Church needs this to put our people in contact with the treasury of belief and the origins of the Christian civilization," deputy head of the Moscow Patriarchate department for external church relations Bishop Mark of Yegoryevsk told Interfax. The delegation of the Russian Orthodox Church headed by Bishop Mark brought theologians, historians and art experts together. The task of the delegation was to describe the shrines in Kappadokya in a way Orthodox worshipers in Russia can understand them.
