Posted by George D. Karcazes (George D Karcazes) on 5/31/2007, 6:47 pm Many of you are probably familiar with Touchstone Magazine [www.touchstone mag.com]. If you haven't subscribed yet, it is worth a look and a try. [Fr. Patrick Reardon has been with Touchstone from the beginning, probably close to 20 years ago .. even before he became Orthodox] The people who publish Touchstone are aware of the fact that our culture is "toxic" to the values of Orthodox (and conservative Roman Catholics and Protestants) and they are also aware of the fact that our collage age children and those in their 20's and 30's are those to whom a lot of the purveyors of that culture are aiming their messages. Accordingly, they have come up with a publication aimed at combating the messages of our toxic culture to that same audience in a format that I would describe as "contemporary" [or as "in your face"] as anything coming out of Hoolywood or the other media outlets of our current American mass culture. The magazine is called "Salvo" and they just published their second issue. Check it out at www.salvomag.com. I not only urge you to subscribe, but I urge you to send subscriptions to all the college students and those in their 20's and 30's on your mailing lists. Salvo should be in the hands of every OCF Chapter, every youth director and every Orthodox young person in North America. The publishers need donors, big and small and they need subscribers.. as many as possible. This is a worthy effort on the part of conservative Christians who are determined to "fight back". Take a look at what they are doing.. they are trying to win the culture wars on behalf of America's youth. George PS if you have some fund raising ideas (in addition to your own contributions) share them with Julie Grisolano.. she's their Development Director. You can reach her at: grisolano@fsj.org
I know that commercial messages are probably not what you are looking for when you come onto this Forum.. but unless our children and grandchildren remain in the Church, Orthodox Unity will arrive too late to be of any use.
