"We have concluded that when the principle of racial division (i.e. phyletism) is juxtaposed with the teaching of the Gospel and the constant practice of the Church, it is not only foreign to it, but also completely opposed, to it. We decree the following in the Holy Spirit: 1. We reject and condemn racial division, that is, racial differences, national quarrels and disagreements in the Church of Christ, as being contrary to the teaching of the Gospel and the holy canons of our blessed fathers, on which the holy Church is established and which adorn human society and lead it to Divine piety. 2. In accordance with the holy canons, we proclaim that those who accept such division according to races and who dare to base on it hitherto unheard-of racial assemblies are foreign to the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church and are real schismatics." Today, a gentleman in our parish shared a new program our church will be sponsoring called the Apostle's feet. We, as a parish, will help to support several individuals who have gotten jobs but do not have enough resources to either pay for their own rent and would end up homeless or we will provide funding for whatever type of therapy they may need for mental disorders so they can hold a job down and get off the street.

This parishioner said what inspired the idea for this new program was something that happened to him not long ago as he was walking down the street in downtown San Jose. He walked up to a homeless man, who was laying on the sidewalk, to see if the man was okay. The homeless man grabbed his hand and pulled the parishoner close to him so that he could hear the homeless man say,"God is good, God is good, God is good..."The homeless man's words pierced his heart.

Then, later that week, this same parishioner was sitting in a taqueria eating lunch when the very same homeless man entered the eatery and headed toward the garbage can. He dove down into the trash can until he pulled out a half-eaten burrito and sat down next to the parishioner and began to eat. The parishioner then began to ask himself what could he, as an Orthodox Christian, do to serve this man as he would Christ.
