It's kind of ironic..the only two people I know who can read the Bible in the original Greek are both converts....neither in the GOA. One of them is not too far from you - Fr. Patrick Reardon of All Saints Orthodox Church in Chicago. Good Greek name huh? This pastoral, professorial scholar regularly uses his knowledge of the original Greek to elaborate on his explanations of the original intent of certain passages of the Bible. I've found them fascinating. You can hear Fr. Pat regularly on Ancient Faith Radio - one of the many ministries which have come out of this epicenter of Orthodox activity on Chicago's west side. Others are Touchstone Magazine and more recently Salvo. Kind of ironic huh??? The man I've probably learned more about the true meaning of the Bible was neither cradle Orthodox, nor Greek. In one of his recent presentations, available on Ancient Faith Radio, I think he mentioned that he reads 2 or 3 chapters of the Bible per day...in the original Greek. Anyway...do yourself a BIG favor and drive up to Fr. Pat's church some Sunday. Just one of his 10 minute sermons is well worth the drive...even if gas goes to $5 per gallon. Just went to vespers there last week.... Wow! What a place.
Hi Harry,
Best Regards,
