    You are absolutely right. We need to get our own house in order and stop trying to paper over the serious issues which exist between Rome and Orthodoxy.

    It is time that we see the "high level" Hierarchical photo-ops and reciprocal "visits" for what they are: each side is trying to use the other to it's advantage.. on the Orthodox side we seem to crave the PR that we otherwise do not seem to be able to generate on our own.. hence visits to Communist Castro's Cuba, visits by the Pope to Istanbul and other Orthodox countries and visits by various Orthodox Hierarchs to Rome.

    In addition to the PR they generate, these visits may be intended to deflect the faithful of the Roman Catholic Church and the faithful of the various Orthodox Churches and their colonies ["Eparchies", "Archdioceses", "Metropolises", etc.] from demanding transparency and accountability from their Church leaders.. not only with respect to finances and dealing with criminal conduct, but also with respect to ending the canonical disorder of the Church by finally convening the much delayed Great and Holy Council and allowing the Churches in the various geographic areas where they overlap in the so-called "diaspora" to unite as self-governing local Churches under a single synod of canonical bishops.

    With respect to cozying up to Rome.. I think the monks on Mr. Athos have got It right..
