George and Tam,
Given how broad a brush that papal 'Diss' was, note it zapped everyone else, not just us, I think Rome just decided to write off Ecumenical stuff as a lost cause in the current context.
I think their purpose was to use a communications vehicle more effective than anything they have internally, to get the message to those disgusted thinking of leaving the RCC that God loves everyone else less so they better stay in the RCC no matter the wastage, systemic misdoing, etc.
This is a case of a shooter wanting to draw a crowd, it isn't about the various targets. Hard to realize when one is one of the targets, but this one isn't about us -- we were just written off.
