"We have concluded that when the principle of racial division (i.e. phyletism) is juxtaposed with the teaching of the Gospel and the constant practice of the Church, it is not only foreign to it, but also completely opposed, to it. We decree the following in the Holy Spirit: 1. We reject and condemn racial division, that is, racial differences, national quarrels and disagreements in the Church of Christ, as being contrary to the teaching of the Gospel and the holy canons of our blessed fathers, on which the holy Church is established and which adorn human society and lead it to Divine piety. 2. In accordance with the holy canons, we proclaim that those who accept such division according to races and who dare to base on it hitherto unheard-of racial assemblies are foreign to the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church and are real schismatics." An inquirer's confusion about jurisdictions and Orthodoxy...

Posted by Tamara Northway on 12/30/2007, 10:50 pm

I saw this written by an inquirer on another forum. A while back I mentioned how confusing the jurisdictions are to those who are not Orthodox. Any cradle Orthodox who believe that the jurisdictions are not an impediment to conversion should read what this fellow below as to say. He is in the process of choosing between Orthodoxy and Catholicism at this point in his search.

"When I was growing up as a Protestant, I didn't reject Orthodoxy; I didn't even consider it in the first place. Orthodoxy appeared to be a collection of different national churches, which I did not realize were in communion with each other. It was something very foreign to me. I knew Orthodoxy was kind of like Catholicism, only they took the ceremonial aspects a step further. As an Evangelical Protestant, Orthodoxy was a different world. It was only after first studying Catholicism a couple years back that I finally starting looking into Orthodoxy."
