"We have concluded that when the principle of racial division (i.e. phyletism) is juxtaposed with the teaching of the Gospel and the constant practice of the Church, it is not only foreign to it, but also completely opposed, to it. We decree the following in the Holy Spirit: 1. We reject and condemn racial division, that is, racial differences, national quarrels and disagreements in the Church of Christ, as being contrary to the teaching of the Gospel and the holy canons of our blessed fathers, on which the holy Church is established and which adorn human society and lead it to Divine piety. 2. In accordance with the holy canons, we proclaim that those who accept such division according to races and who dare to base on it hitherto unheard-of racial assemblies are foreign to the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church and are real schismatics." Thanks Tamara. Helpful information.

You make your eggs and then have the whole village turn out for the joyful experience at midnight!

Imagine what it would be like if we had more than 35 families in our little village!

As we approached our parish priest to exchange the Paschal greeting and receive a red egg following the Pascha Liturgy, he got a very impish smile on his face. Father Damianos does not speak English, and we have gathered but a tiny grasp of Greek since we moved here. But we do chat regularly with the help of English speaking neighbors, so Father knows our backgrounds. As I reached the head of the line (OK, so Greeks make surging amorphous blobs, not lines), Father exclaimed: "Khristos Voskresie", and watched for my reaction. I responded, "Voistsinu Voskresie", of course, and the villagers around us looked perplexed at first.

Father is a monk and visits Mt Athos regularly. We know that he has many Russian monastic friends, so we are betting he checked with them in order to surprise us this year.

    Xristos Anesti!!!

    Al
