Metropolitan Jonah, head of the Orthodox Church in America, will visit Russia from April 25 through May 4, 2009, according to the Moscow Patriarchate Website. While in Russia, Metropolitan Jonah will meet with Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and all of Russia, and visit holy places, including the Valaam Monastery. Metropolitan Jonah and Patriarch Kirill will jointly conduct religious services at Moscow's Christ the Savior Cathedral and at the Kremlin's Cathedral of the Assumption.
Metropolitan Jonah was elected Archbishop of Washington and New York and Metropolitan of all America and Canada in November 2008 at the 15th All-American Council of the Orthodox Church in America. He replaced Metropolitan Herman, who retired as head of the Orthodox Church in America in September 2008, because of health reasons.
