"We have concluded that when the principle of phyletism (i.e. ecclesiastical nationalism) is juxtaposed with the teaching of the Gospel and the constant practice of the Church, it is not only foreign to it, but also completely opposed, to it. We decree the following in the Holy Spirit: 1. We reject and condemn racial division, that is, racial differences, national quarrels and disagreements in the Church of Christ, as being contrary to the teaching of the Gospel and the holy canons of our blessed fathers, on which the holy Church is established and which adorn human society and lead it to Divine piety. 2. In accordance with the holy canons, we proclaim that those who accept such division according to races and who dare to base on it hitherto unheard-of racial assemblies are foreign to the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church and are real schismatics." Brotherhood of St. Moses the Black hosts 16th annual Ancient Christianity Conference

INDIANAPOLIS, IN [Brotherhood of St. Moses the Black/OCA Communications] -- The Brotherhood of St. Moses the Black will host its 16th annual Ancient Christianity Conference here at the Marten House Hotel from Friday through Sunday, May 29-31, 2009.

With the theme "Jesus Christ: Joy and Sorrow," this year's conference will feature "Orthodoxy 101" -- introductory presentations about the Orthodox Church -- and a discussion on African saints and the history of the Orthodox Church in Africa.

Speakers include Frs. Moses Berry, Jerome Sanderson, and Paisius Altschul; Mother Katherine Weston; Dr. Carla Thomas; and Photios Meirthew, Mrs. Margaret Bauman, and Matthew Namee.

On Saturday evening, there will be a free lecture open to the community at Joy of All Who Sorrow Orthodox Church in Indianapolis, beginning at 7:00 PM.

Registration for the conference is $40.00, with scholarships available.

The Brotherhood of St. Moses the Black is a pan-Orthodox, non-profit organization. Its mission is to minister to Americans the gift of Orthodoxy. In an effort to be good stewards of the manifold grace of God, the organization presents its annual conference that targets those who have little exposure to Orthodoxy as well as the Church's African roots.
