"We have concluded that when the principle of phyletism (i.e. ecclesiastical nationalism) is juxtaposed with the teaching of the Gospel and the constant practice of the Church, it is not only foreign to it, but also completely opposed, to it. We decree the following in the Holy Spirit: 1. We reject and condemn racial division, that is, racial differences, national quarrels and disagreements in the Church of Christ, as being contrary to the teaching of the Gospel and the holy canons of our blessed fathers, on which the holy Church is established and which adorn human society and lead it to Divine piety. 2. In accordance with the holy canons, we proclaim that those who accept such division according to races and who dare to base on it hitherto unheard-of racial assemblies are foreign to the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church and are real schismatics." This weekend, at two separate spots in North America, the Orthodox Church essentially moves into the 21st century - employing for the first modern technology for the first time in an effort to communicate with and evangelize this continent.

Beginning Thursday night, St. Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary will host a conference: Orthodoxy in America - The Past, Present and Future. Among the speakers will be Metropolitan Jonah, Archbishop Nathaniel, Bishop Basil of Amphipolis, Fr. Alexander Garklavs, Charles Ajalat and many others. The conference will review the progress of Orthodoxy in America, from the beginnings in the early nineteenth century, the vision of St. Tikhon, the autocephaly of the OCA and its relation to Canon 28.

The conference will conclude with a description of the Future of Orthodoxy on this continent by His Beatitude, Metropolitan Jonah. The presentation will be followed by a panel discussion.

What is different about this conference is this: Through a partnership with St. Andrew House, this conference has been turned into a Webinar, and will be viewable on a real time basis via the internet at http://www.orthodoxdetroit.com/stvladimirswebinar.htm

Viewers will also be able to ask questions via email during the Question and Answer periods. These questions will be conveyed to the participants live.

During the same weekend, at another spot on the continent, Conciliar Press and Ancient Faith Radio, in conjunction with the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese are preparing to immerse Oklahoma City in Orthodoxy through an innovative "Try Orthodoxy" campaign. For the first time on this continent, city wide advertising and billboards will support an effort to introduce an entire metropolitan area to the Orthodox faith.
