In addressing the conference on Orthodoxy at St. Vladimir's Seminary on June 20, 2009, Metropolitan Jonah, Primate of the Orthodox Church in America (OCA), called for the autocephalous OCA and the self-ruled Antiochian Orthodox Archdiocese of America to come together into "a single synod of bishops, a single church, so that we can pursue together that common mission....we need to completely unify our efforts."
But just how do we accomplish this inspiring mission? One way is by having Metropolitan Jonah and Metropolitan Philip, Primate of the Antiochian Orthodox Archdiocese of America, meet to discuss the best way to establish a united American Orthodox Church.
Once Metropolitan Jonah and Metropolitan Philip decide to merge the OCA and the Antiochian Archdiocese, hierarchs from the seven additional Orthodox jurisdictions in America could meet with them to discuss their thoughts and willingness to merge their jurisdictions into a united American Orthodox Church.
Thereafter, additional meetings can be held with all the Orthodox hierarchs -- perhaps weekly -- in order to "fine tune" the responsibilities and bylaws of this agreement.
Once this agreement has been finalized and approved by America's Orthodox hierarchs, a united American Orthodox Church will be established -- an inspiring united Church, indeed the Body of Christ!
