"We have concluded that when the principle of phyletism (i.e. ecclesiastical nationalism) is juxtaposed with the teaching of the Gospel and the constant practice of the Church, it is not only foreign to it, but also completely opposed, to it. We decree the following in the Holy Spirit: 1. We reject and condemn racial division, that is, racial differences, national quarrels and disagreements in the Church of Christ, as being contrary to the teaching of the Gospel and the holy canons of our blessed fathers, on which the holy Church is established and which adorn human society and lead it to Divine piety. 2. In accordance with the holy canons, we proclaim that those who accept such division according to races and who dare to base on it hitherto unheard-of racial assemblies are foreign to the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church and are real schismatics." Patriarch Kirill Tears Apart "Liberal Philosophy" in Seminary Address

Posted by George Patsourakos on 7/30/2009, 1:28 am

Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, attacked what he called "liberal philosophy," in an address to students and instructors at the Kiev Theological Academy in Ukraine.

The Patriarch accused liberalism of drawing "no distinction between sin and holiness and no distinction between truth and lies." He cited the legalization of same-sex marriages in some countries as an example to back up his point.

"There is no concept of sin at all in liberal philosophy and no distinction between good and evil" he said, while on the third day of his 10-day visit to Ukraine.

"Liberal philosophy declared any form of conduct legitimate if it does not prevent other people from exercising their own freedom," he added.

Patriarch Kirill concluded his address by saying, "In liberalism, every person is autonomous, both from God and from other people; a person creates his own system of values and this ultimately leads him to losing his inner control."
