The Orthodox Church in Bulgaria has blasted a Madonna concert scheduled to occur in Sofia, Bulgaria this weekend.
The Bulgarian Orthodox Church is accusing the 51-year-old pop singer of showing disrespect to Christianity, and is urging Bulgarians to stay away from the show.
The Church's statement laments the fact that August 29 is the day of lent for Orthodox Christians, marking the beheading of John the Baptist, the biblical preacher who baptized Jesus Christ.
Madonna has faced strong criticism on previous tours, as a result of "crucifying" herself on a cross during her concerts. She wore a crown of thorns and sang, while she was hanging from a cross on her "Confessions" world tour in 2006.
