Good point. Just one clarification, the GOA charter wasn't a scandal (at least not in the same sense as the OCA issue was) but rather a disagreement over the method in which the charter can be changed. Everything was done out in the open, it is just that some felt that the only way the charter could be changed was by a Clergy Laity congress initiating the change and others felt that this was not the case. The courts decided in favor of the GOA. This is hardly a scandal (except in the sense that it is scandalous that supposed faithful church persons would sue the Church over administrative issues).
The overriding point you make, that the Church will ultimately be stronger in the face of adversity once we are a single administrative unit is probably correct.
