The question of Christian unity from new perspectives will be discussed at the World Council of Churches (WCC) Commission on Faith and Order meeting, scheduled to be held in Kolympari, Crete from October 7 to 14, 2009.
Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew will open this meeting, which will be attended by some 120 members of the Commission. The WCC Commission is considered to be Christianity's most representative theological forum.
Participants at this gathering in Crete will address issues that have divided Christian denominations for centuries, in addition to topics that have resulted in divisiveness in recent years, such as homosexuality.
The primary theme of the meeting, "Called to Be the One Church," will be addressed by Eastern Orthodox, Protestant, and Roman Catholic theologians.
