About the only anti-Russian conspiracy theory not in this poor excuse for journalism is that KIRILL was planted on the Patriarchal Throne by space aliens. If it had been presented as a roundup of narrow, self-focused, distorted perceptions and opinions -- right or wrong -- challenging the MP's claimed efforts to carry out the Lord's Commission -- right or wrong -- I as a journalist could understand it. But as straight news, this is straight PR news release, and reads like little else! And if our tax dollars paid for it, it's obvious Washington anti-Russian-Federation propaganda masquerading as (a middle school intern's) religious journalism. I guess since the fall of Communism -- what, a generation ago now?! -- Radio Free Europe and Radio Liberty have become Radio Free Wall Street/Madison Avenue, and Radio Heretical Proselytism....
Is there politics and competition between o/Orthodox Patriarchates/Autocephalous Churches, even historiographical disagreements? Yes, unlike among the Particular Churches or dioceses subject to Rome's pope. But we almost always maintain Communion and common True Doctrine and spirituality among ourselves, whereas differing with Rome or any other Western denomination means schism or expulsion, and exponential fragmentation ... 35,000 and counting. The geopolitical/religious tragedy and global threat is here in the West, not there.
