In the services of the Orthodox Church we work all the senses. Music, vestments, icons, prayers, candles, the Eucharist, all of these things, presented in a scripted manner with changing parts, work together to communicate the idea of that which is Holy. We step OUTSIDE the world, we don't bring the world in with praise bands and PowerPoint slides or video presentations.
I have spoken to several Protestant "music directors" and "worship leaders" that say the same thing, who are trying to weave elements of Orthodox and Catholic worship into their services, but that only goes so far.
Even Protestants are waking up to see that worship is not a show, it is an experience. We experience the Divine Presence, we experience Heaven on Earth. How can they even hope to compare with that?
There is no PowerPoint in Heaven. Or at least I most sincerely HOPE NOT!
