I have had Shelties my whole life and now I have 3 children of my own. My kids are 1, 3 and 5 and the sheltie loves to play with them. I have never had a Sheltie jump my fence. How far in advance you look depends on what type of sheltie you want. Sable's are pretty common and so are Tri color's for the most part. Blue Merles require a little more work to find..but are well worth the trouble!
