I had dropped Booster when I thought it was too obvious where the storyline was going. It didn't bother me so much Ted was given a heroic and meaningful death after it was decided there'd be a new Blue Beetle. It did bother me to have him back and just count down the issues until he was re-killed.
But I am weak and bought the current issue.
I loved it and while Geoff Johns is hit or miss with me, this issue was hit all the way.
The Peter Platinum and obnoxious Green Team drove home what could be wrong with Booster living the lie he's living. Batman, not just believing how good a hero Booster could be someday but having proof the whole time, made up for that. Icing on the cake was getting Michelle back (finally!) and the familial revelation with Rip. Now there's another hero besides Batman who knows the heights Booster will be reaching and has already reached to some degree.
I'll be sticking around for two more issues because hey, it's Chuck Dixon, but the new writer, even if it's Dam Jurgens, has some pretty big shoes to fill. This issue moved me. I can't put it more plainly.
Oh, and I choose to believe that was Ted doing the 'bwa-ha-ha'. Who says Ted went straight back to the moment he died? He could have stopped along the way, created some physical simulcrum of himself that would leave the brain fluid on the goggles sent to Batman, and is living in the shadows. If any hero could be a sort of one man DC Illuminatti, it would be Ted Kord.
