Was anyone else disappointed with the 1st Golden Age Marvel Comics volume?

Having seen a couple of these stories previously reprinted by Roy Thomas during the mid-late '60's run of Fantasy Masterpieces/Marvel Super-Heroes and the occasional page or panels reprinted in his mag Alter Ego, I was VERY disappointed by the overall terrible quality of the reprints in the first Golden Age volume of the Marvel Comics title. Yes, nice to finally have it collected somewhere, but too expensive for only four issues of such bad quality. I wonder if people complained since the subsequent 1st volumes of the Sub-Mariner title and All Winners had a much improved over-all look.
