In my living room I have a curio cabinet that holds my Daredevil collection on the bottom and on top I have five Prince Namor statues. Included are the Marvel Milestones, Bowen black costume, Hard Hero, and the massive Sideshow comiquette. Also, in front of the milestones version sits the awesome little Bowen bust of Namor.
I was just thinking what is so impressive about Namor? Well, he is a handsome individual with a muscular but lean physique and he exudes great power and nobility nicely captured by the sculptors. But the coolest feature of Namor's physicality is his ankle wings which makes him pretty unique. I know a lot has been said of them as being useless because they are so small that Namor couldn't possibly fly with them or they are just silly. Any time Namor has lost them(like in Byrne's run)Namor just doesn't look the same. Of all the things I could talk about and have talked about regarding the Sub-Mariner over the years it's his ankle wings that impress me about his look. They just set off Namor's awesome presence. So, the pointed ears, the widow's peak, the great bullet proof physique, the ability to fly, survives equally on land or sea, the wrist bands, and the ankle wings make Namor one of comic's most unique and impressive specimens. You might think him a jerk, a dick or whatever else but you can't deny he is Marvel's baddest ass with a long list of who he's faced and beaten. But that is another post. Stay tuned, IMPERIUS REX!
