Posted by Brand Echh on 8/22/2005, 1:39 am Torch said the reason Marvel never sued DC was that there weren't any laws at the time that would allow them to do so... not true. National successfully sued over Wonderman early on, and later on won-out against Captain Marvel. As both of those cases show however, DC has a lot more money to spend on litigation than publishers like Timely (far from No. 1 or No. 2 back in the hay-day). Also, similarities were fewer in the early days, as Namor never talked to fish and wasn't technically from "Atlantis." The only real similarities were their shared connection to the sea and having cities underwater (but given how National won against Wonderman and Captain Marvel, that seems like enough of a connection for a lawsuit at the time). Darkcrawler seems to be confusing Greek Titans with Eternal Titans. The latter are predecessors of the Olympian gods, and still exist (mostly burried under the earth as shown in the X-Force/Champions crossover about six years ago or so). Eternal Titans, or more appropriatly, Titanian Eternals, are Eternals that settled on the moon of Titan thousands of years ago. Thanos and Eros are Eternals, not Greek gods. A successful Sub-Mariner movie (and when I asked Arad about it in an interview a year ago, he agreed that it should be called "Sub-Mariner" not "Namor") would likely boost sales of a Sub-Mariner series, but not neccissarily. Remember, the Blade franchize did nothing for Blade comics. Plus, if Marvel continues having Sub-Mariner only wearing a speedo, it's going to be hard to develop a contemporary audience. Half-naked heroes were all well and good in the 30s, but that was nearly 70 years ago. Side-note: I think the Rock is a great choice as Namor (last I heard he was still attached to the project). Yeah, I think it's about time Namor got a new title, although King Namor rolls of the tongue easier than Emperor Namor (which is a little to alliterative for my tastes). Allan posted unfinished ideas for Namor??? Where? As for the Man-Thing stories about Namor and Atlantis... as trippy as they were, I liked them. Sure it didn't match exactly with what we'd known before, but what do we really KNOW about the Homo Mermanus before Kamuu showed up? They might just be from Atlantis propper... and the 10 kingdoms thing was a reference to actual Atlantean myths.

Don't do much posting here since most Namor stuff gets covered in the Invaders or Defenders (where appropriate), but I wanted to post a few Namor-specific questions (and I did)... now looking at the board I see conversations I missed... so here I am, butting in.
