Posted by Brand Echh on 8/23/2005, 10:50 am, in reply to "Question for Brand Echh!" What Marvel meant by "Not Brand Echh" was well.. you remember those old commercials that would say stuff like "Brand X detergent leaves clothes stiff and faded, but new Clorox leaves them fresh and vibrant!" Well, Marvel was doing a pun on that. The other guys (DC, even other Marvel comics) were "Brand X" and this comic, well, they were better than "Brand X." To go one further they did what was done with a lot of humor mags at the time (like Mad) and wrote X as if it was said by someone with a speech impediment, "Echh." So, to sum, the humor series from Marvel was named what it was because it was better than Brand Echh comics. It's pronounced like "X" but without the hard "K" sound I assume. It was used in other parodies within the comic like "Professor Echh and the Echh Men." I chose the name because... well, I liked the sound of it. And I liked the idea of being the other guy that Marvel was making fun of. I am Brand X, sorry, Brand Echh. Coincidentally, my AOL IM is "Yesbrandechh" ... don't know why I did that...
