Posted by sepia on 9/1/2005, 1:22 pm, in reply to "Drowning Of Atlanteans" Think of shells or sea-anemones. One thing is: normally the water is moving itself, the other: underwater species can press the water through their gills with muscle power (like we are breathing air). One more thing: the cold water of the Antarctic waters hold very much oxygen. This explanations aren't very scientific but I'm sure for an ocean biologist it would be easy to give a scientific explanation how the Atlanteans survive sleep without drowning. O.k., now I'll have to sleep.

mmmh...
not every underwater species has to keep moving. Perhaps there are some who have to. But there are a lot, who don't have to.
Plaices for example are lurking hours under the sand and don't drown. There are several other fish who don't move while waiting for a prey.

: Has it ever been addressed why Atlanteans
: don't have to constantly keep moving to have
: water moving over their gills? Most, if not
: all, fish need to keep moving so they don't
: drown. Anybody know if this was ever
: explained why sleeping Atlanteans don't
