Being a networker after 09/11

A Networker Possible Contribution to the World after 09/11 ( Pierre Giguere , www.gotopshape.net ) This Wednesday marks the first anniversary of 9/11. Suddenly that day, without warning everything changed. We won’t debate here the whys and wherefores but more what happened after and what lessons we can get out of it as a networker. After the attack, people started work together, giving their time, money, and humanity. It reminded me that most people are inherently good We have to remember that this isn’t about countries, it’s about people (like our business). The latest genetic discoveries reveal that all people are about 99.9 percent genetically identical. So no matter how different we may look or act – we’re really far more similar than different. Under the skin (and even in the skin) we’re all almost identical. So don’t be afraid of people who are different. Remember they’re 99.9% just like you – and you can learn from the .1% that’s different. Instead of letting this horrible event break us into pieces, let’s make it bring us together – across races, across borders. We should not forget that feeling of togetherness and let’s use it to build a better business and set an example for the world to see. All along this past year, I ran into people across the world that were asking themselves: Why are Americans so united? They don’t resemble one another even if you’d paint them all the same! They speak all the languages of the world and form an astonishing mixture of different civilizations. Some of them belong to a nearly extinct ethnic group, others are incompatible with each other, and in matters of religious beliefs, not even God can count how many they are. Yet, the American tragedy turned three hundred million people into a hand put on the heart. Nobody rushed to accuse the White House, the army, and the secret services of being only a bunch of losers. No one rushed to empty his or her bank accounts. Neither rushed on the streets nearby to gape about. The Americans volunteered to donate blood and to give a helping hand. After the first moments of panic, they raised the flag on the smoking ruins, putting on T-shirts, caps and ties in the colors of the national flag. Only freedom can work such miracles! When someone in your group wants you to give a presentation to one of his prospect, you usually don’t ask: What’s his skin color? What’s his religion? You ask about his background, education, what is his hot button, what’s his « wanna » not if he is from this country or of that religion. When you give a presentation, you usually don’t debate politics or religion with your prospect even though you have your opinion on those subjects. You take time to listen to your prospect to understand his wants and needs in order to know what points to insist on during the presentation. You have to be somewhat open-minded but with a clear goal in mind. Personally, I am a Christian, and I face people daily that have conflictual value with mine. But I still love them and I don’t try to pitch my Christianity down their throat. When I share my opportunity, I present what could interest the person in front of me, what value my opportunity could bring into his or her life. I don’t try to confront the people’s own beliefs, I just share my story and my opportunity and simply love them. The timing may be right for them and if not, with respect, you keep a good communication line open for years to come; in the long run they might become one of your associates, refer you people or simply become good friends. With respect, nothing to lose, everything to gain! As an example, I have homosexual friends in my group and even if I am not and I don’t agree with their lifestyle, I still love them and will help them attain their goals any time. By acting that way, you become a bridge builder and in time of turmoil like we’ve been through since 09/11, the world needs more bridge builders and in a sense more networkers. Let’s all become bridge builders between nations, races, religions, and else for a better world. To do that, we also have to stop all the gossiping that comes around in our industry. The World Trade Center took years to be build but only a few minutes to be destroyed like gossip can easily do to people and opportunities. Let’s take the time to build up people rather than destroying them by gossiping. We all catch ourselves falling in the trap of gossiping at one time or another, but we must try to hold our tongues when we can (this count for me too!). And when you do stop gossiping about people, especially leaders who can change opportunities into something you are in accord with, do love them even if you don’t agree with the way they do things or choices they make. Love them, wish them the best of success and move on. That way you’ll feel at peace and you’ll help the whole MLM industry having a better public image to show to the general population.
