Posted by Tim "Fric" Johnson Motivation is the one key that every Networker... heck, every PERSON!... must master to be successful. Let's look at the word... Motivation comes from the joining of two words Motive and Action... Motive is your reason... Your WHY... Action is just that actions, activity, the DOing of your business. Therefore MOTIVATION is the reason you act. It is what MOVES you to ACTION... Only you can MOTIVATE you. Frac and I or anyone else for that matter cannot motivate you. Tony Robbins can't. Zig can't. Jim Rohn can't. All we can do is pump you up in the short term. We can give you the tools to use, but we cannot MOVE you to ACTION. However, I have found that we can spark you. When we "pump you up", we can inspire you to make changes. We can help increase your desires and beliefs. I have found that the best and only motivation comes from within. TO find out what motivates you the most and the best, you have to know certain things about yourself... 1. Where are you going? 2. When do you desire to be there? 3. How do you desire to get there? 4. How will you know you are making progress? 5. How do you know when you arrive? These 5 things can be answered by creating a vision for yourself and then defining the goals that get you there. This board is inadequate to walk you through that process. However, I can tell you that Fric and Frac will be posting some material on our website that deals with this. Also, later this year we will be releasing the Networker's Guide to Goal-Getting. That will walk you through the same process that we use to do this. In the meantime, let me give you a few hints... 1. Vision - This sounds bigger than it has to be. All you require here is to write a description of an ordinary day in your life when you have everything you desire. Wait! If I don't know what I desire, how can I write this?! Simple... Imagine your ultimate life. Where would you live? What would you do? Who would you hang out with? How would you make your money? Who would you help? Where would you vacation? What would your family life be like? Do this as if money were no object. As if you had already attained all that you desire. Think about what a typical day would be like. By typical, I mean any old day. Not a day where you pay off all your debts, buy a big fancy house and tell your boss to kiss off! It can be difficult, but it is worth it. Don't be disappointed if it takes several attempts to get it right either. 2. Goals - Now that you have a destination, you should figure out what the intermediate steps are. What goals must be met to get to that destination? Do you require a degree? More training. A change in diet and exercise? More time with the kids, spouse, on your business, at church, etc. etc.? Once you get a handly on your vision/destination, the goals come a lot easier. If you have a hard time figuring out how to get from here to there, find someone who is already "THERE" and ask how they did it. Model them and do that. (Assuming it didn't happen at the expense of important things like family, etc.) Also, I highly recommend that you read the following books: Think and Grow Rich All of these will help spark some hope and belief that you CAN achieve your dreams.
