Thanks Keith.
About 6 weeks ago both Hayley and I were asked to represent the Eastern Counties which is made up of the counties of Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk, Suffolk and Lincolnshire.
The race was against the RAF and Cambridge University. It was held at an RAF base, RAF Halton in Aylesbury. The course was a very testing loop of just under 5k for the women and 2 loops for the men.
There were a few familiar faces on the start line in the womens race for Hayley with a few other girls from Essex also in the squad. Hayley ran a very sensible race saving most of her energy for some extremely long uphill drags towards the end of the race and finished a very good 10th place. She was also an unexpected 3rd scorer in the Eastern team. (3 runners to score 6 in the squad). The race was won by a lady from Cambridge University. Cambrisge also won the team result with the Eastern team finishing 2nd.
In the mens race there was a slightly larger field as the teams needed 6 to score. There were also some familiar faces on the start line with Crispian from Billericay Striders, and Paul Dobson, Gary Chandler and Kevin Harris from Springfield Striders running in the Vets team.
I finished in 6th and 3rd Eastern Scorer. The Eastern team also won the team race with 1st, 4th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th positions.
It was a really enjoyable race and something that was different to what we have done before. The organisation was superb and we were well looked after by the RAF with them putting on warm food for us after.
I'll post result as soon as they are up.
