Paul I was a continuous member of the committee (2000-08). Whether it was right or wrong to select the majority of marathon places behind closed doors is another debate. I don't ever recall there being preferential treatment for cross country runners. All the names in the draw were looked at and those who had given service to the club in the previous year or number of years were considered more than others. Service to the club meant many things organising (social included), participating (road and country), coaching etc. Steve Rich got his place on merit. If there are still records of those who got places on the old system, you would find a right mixed bunch. Yes,those cross country runners who have been given a place in the past,you will find was more down to their overall all year round events than the country alone.
