In kampamans case, when he came to greenbay, KGB was the rde, so... only natural to pug him in at LDE.

but it is also part of a defensive scheme to have the undersized quick guys on the qb's blindside, as part of the time, their rushing technique leaves a gaping hole for the qb to squirt through. The other side, the lde, has traditionaly been a larger de that can keep containment and hopefully provide pass rush... But it's not like it's set in stone. and If i team sees a matchup it wants to exploit, there is no reason they can't shift the lde over to rde. It would obviously require some work in practice, but it's not as complex as switching offensive lineman to opposite sides.
