Fist things first. free agency. Vikings needs are O-line, Secondary WR and linebacker.
Starting with linebacker - Erin Henderson is rated as one of the top 5 OLB on the FA market. Better off drafting a OLB.
Secondary. No great prospects, especially the cover-2 for CB, however Laron Landry may be available at Safety. This is a good pickup.
Offensive line. It's a warm barf bag to choose from. This being a deep OL draft - Ryan Miller OG/T Colorado will be there at #3. He needs work on his technique, not his effort or ability.
The WR group is big, WR can be found in FA.
With all of this comes a caveat: Mario Williams is the prize this offseason. A DE/OLB depending on the 3-4 or 4-3, his ability to change a game is huge.
So given the prospects in the Vikings area of need, the draft needs to provide a OT/G, and OLB.
Now I will go out and say this. Two players jump out at me for this draft in the top 5. Rieff the OT from Iowa and Trent Richardson, the RB from Alabama.
I don't like Claiborne (CB LSU) he NEVER played against a decent offense.
Kalil is nice a OT - but never played against a decent DE. Nobody he played against at DE is going on the first day of the draft.
I like RG3, and he is worth the pick if not for the investment in Ponder.
So I'm beginning to like Richardson a lot. He is the best RB since Peterson and gives the Vikings a 1-2 punch at RB nobody will have. Run or pass, but do one ting very well, not both pretty good.
Despite what has been made of the pass-happy NFL, running the ball is the key to keeping the defense rested.
So with either Bowe or Bennet signed as WR, an OT in the second, and an offensive line built to run, Trent Richardson RB Alabama is my pick for the Vikings at #3. Gebhart moves to the Kliensasser role of H-back.
