years. My guess is, the Vikings will use a two LB 5-2-4 or a 4-2-5 as a base. If you are thinking about stopping the run or stopping the pass, an extra lber, like the Middle Linebacker is not really the issue.
A down lineman is already at the line of scrimmage and the MLB is not really a coverage issue.
i have been wondering for years why the MLB position still exists. It's the Fullback of the defense. When you look at the 3-4, it's actually a 5-2, since both OLB's are very close to the line.
Look, I will put this in the old term I always liked. the best players on the field win games. The formation is sometimes a reflection of that. I don't think a formation ever made a bad player any better.
