The Vikings could be starting 2 rookie safties and possilby 1 rookie corner in the nickel package. Right now, they need to have the fundementals mastered before venturing into the exotic or innovative schemes.
The 4-2-1-2-2 would require backfield players. I think we have 2 nfl worthy backfield players (cook and Winfield- one is struggling with injuries of late the other showed promise but landed in legal trouble). I like the players we added in the draft but they need plenty of seasoning.
I'm all for innovation, but i'd rather have a great teacher on defense than an innovator at this point in the development of the getting younger vikings (both an inovator/teacher would be ideal).
I think Frazier lost us 3 games in the 4th quarter last year. If it happens again, he is probably gone. Even if the greatest innovator in NFL history was on his staff and coaching the D, he probably would be hamstrung bc of the rookies in the secondary and might be gone the following year. I want a teacher who the young guns will at least learn from and even if that coach leaves next year, the knowledge and teachings will remains.
