If kalil reaches his potential. you'll see how important a high pick is. But make no mistake, what you do with a high pick is more important than the pick itself. Draft a mclazy high, or a tony mandarich, and it sets your franchise back. teams stick with high picks longer than 5th rounders. Highly drafted busts take up roster space that had the guy been drafted later, the team would be quicker to move on without.
A team needs to hit on those high picks. the vikes missing on the likes of Troy Williamson, mike bennett and bryant mckinnie, The udezes, Bryants, Dimwoods. tyrell hohnsons and tavaris jacksons drafted are exactly why the team is coming of a 3-13 season. had 1/2 those players been hits, instead of flat out misses? I think this teams fortunes would have been different.
Just look what hitting on randy moss, Kevin williams and adrian peterson have meant to this team. Now add in a patrick willis, Patrick Peterson, Eli Manning and a megatron.
Tell me then hitting high in the draft wouldn't have made a huge difference!
I'd sacrafice another year to move on in 2013 with 2-3 more high talent players. Heck, that puts the team in golden shape as Ponder hits his potential.
