He played 14 games over 2 seasons. 100 passes at 60% & 130 rushes at 4ypc( sacks are rush attempts in NCAA)
In 2021, Levis xfered to Kentucky & made a name for himself playing QB for Bob Stoops. Stoops brought in an OC that season that had bounced around the NFL & settled in w the rams as QB coach/ pass game coordinator then I at the time KOC was there. Liam coen I think is the guys name. At Kentucky, he added some west coast looks & NFL sets to the ncaa spread/ RPO Stoops favors.
Coen moved back to the rams in 2022. Rich Scangerello became the new OC for Will Levis. Scangarello was QB coach/ pass coordinator at SF & overlapped with Kwesi's tenure at Frisco.
Reading all that, 1 thing jumps out. Levi's 4 years in college he's had a different OC every year. 2021 was a big leap in production for Levi's. But Bob Stoops spread has that effect on qb's everywhere he's been. Those qb's didn't translate their production into the NFL. Josh Heupel, Sam Bradford, Landry Jones. Great college qb's. Backup level nflers.
Levi's tho, might be different in his stay at Oklahoma. Stoops OC's were not guys with NFL experience. In Kentucky, Levis had the benefit of 2 OC's that used elements of the pro set.
2022, Will Levis struggled. It'd probably vault Levis up the QB rankings if 2022 were an improvement on his 1st year starting #'s of 2900 yds, 24 tds, 13 it's. Instead, he was stacked 42 times behind a porous line & his production was about the same. Levi's showed toughness. But also developed bad habits. Chief amongst them. Holding the ball too long & locking on to receivers like the proverbial deer in the headlights.
It's a bit off putting to become that guy in college. Where does that develop on the next level? Levi's would have benefited by 1 more year with Rich Scangarello,
Just my opinion. Levis reminds me of a cross between Josh Allen & Baker Mayfield & those 2 were very similar in college skill set. Allen has developed into a dam good QB. Baker still stares into the headlights. Baker, my perception anyway. His whole TikTok way of entering the NFL seems a lot similar to Levis than how I perceived Josh Allen. It's a grain of salt opinion from an old blowhard. If the Vikings somehow manage to chain the future to Levis, I hope my opinion is dead wrong.
I will say this. Watching his proday w/o sleeves.
Lol- he sure looks pretty tossing those Brett Favre rocket darts.
Which guy will Levis mirror more closely is anybody's guess...Baker? Favre? Allen?
The Vikings tho. Have a back channel. Kwesi/ KOC worked with the kids past 2 OC's.
I'm still leaning #210 as the QB slot. Somebody PURDY good will be avail to groom and not be a source of Kirko's threatened ego. I would think, wanting Kirk believing MN. Is his best opportunity is a plus no matter the true outcome.
The more I think about it. KOC, Nick Mullins- snagging Stetson Bennett with an afterthought pick. It'd be a very reasonable possibility of a spectacular outcome. Brock Purdy is shaky proof of what I've been saying for 20+ years. The most important muscle for a college QB, trying to become an NFL star. Is the muscle betwixt the ears.
If 2024 or 25 rolls around. & Caleb Williams miraculously falls into the Vikings lap. It'd be a complete disaster to instead be dedicated to the development of Will Levis or Anthony Richardson. Where as, Stetson Bennett might be willing to play the Brad Johnson role. It takes an especially mature young man to backseat the ego required to play QB at big school NCAA.
Bennett showed that type focus & maturity at Georgia.
