It would have been quite the historic tie to have the Clown in Chief booked on April fool's day.
It's embarrassing for the republican party to be crying "politics", when this could have all been taken care of via the well earned impeachment.
When laying blame. Republicans need to stare into the mirror.
BTW, I am also of the opinion. Nixon's pardon was a terrible misjudgement of history. Nixon should have been indicted & sent to prison or home confinement. Not doing so created the opening for a future criminal prez to believe the office transfered privilege above the law.
Recently I watched a 2019 documentary, in 1969. Nixon had approved a plan to drop nukes on Vietnam. In the fall of '69. There were simultaneous protests across the nation. In over 100 cities. Demanding the immediate withdrawal of US forces. The protests influenced Nixon. Instead in November. Nixon gave his "silent majority" speech. Surged troops into SE Asia & began the bombing/ agent orange/ napalm escalation.
Now, through the lense of history. Coupled with the wests claim of Russian war crimes in Ukraine.
The Nixon admin was the 1st criminal enterprise presidency of(most of us) our lifetime.
Ironically, Trump has been quoted as calling Tricky Dick his favorite president.
Now, it's just my opinion. But I believed at the time. Letting Nixon skate from accountability would have terrible consequences upon the future.
Initially, I think. Nixon's pardon is the origin of citizens political cynicism. That was a bad enough result, as through the majority of my lifetime. Civic engagement has been very low. Prior to Nixon's pardon. Civic engagement has been much higher. And, again my belief. The fewer people engaged means the easier it is for corruption to flourish. Easier for the very wealthy to buy the government desired.
Up until recently. Citizens that actually registered & then followed through & voted was below 50% of eligible.
Through the lack of engagement. We the people allowed our government to become hijacked by corporations and minority interests.
Ironically, it took bush Jr's complete failure, which resulted in a black man becoming president. To re-engage that disinterested cynical voter.
So, if you follow my thought process above. Gerald Ford, pardoning Nixon. That is the inertia. The moment the path of this country fell down the pathway to the dark abyss of our post 911 government.
Meh, idk that it matters. The past cannot be changed. But, the moment of "NOW".
Sorry Donny. It is imperative you are held accountable for everything. Even the tiniest crime.
Is it a crime to whisper your daughter's name into the ear of the pornstar your screwing?
No, but it is creepy AF.
LOCK HIM UP.
Now, all that said. I vm dislike revenge, retribution & grievance. I feel dirty watching, hearing, participating in the cultural assassination of DJT.
I would far prefer a plea deal. Similar to Napoleon. DJT stripped of citizenship & exiled to some miserable island. His assets impounded & distributed amongst the election workers & police that have suffered true harm. That's just fair.
If DJT had an ounce of respect for this country. He'd be the one proposing the plea deal.
Ford, btw. Is the answer to the trivia question.
The only man to serve as US president that was not voted in by the country. He was appointed to be VP after Spiro Agnew, the elected VP resigned in a plea deal to avoid prosecution for corruption in a bribery scheme
