This year, Josh Dobbs, similar skill set veteran was brought in as the 99% sure backup. UCLA QB DTR was drafted, 4th or 5th round I think. Mond was signed off the street, perhaps bc stefanski had familiarity.
In any case, 3 candidates to be Watson's backup- same skill set, same playbook was the idea.
Dobbs & Mond both looked adequate in preseason. We all know the drill. A flash here & there vs preseason scrubs. Mond, at least. Didn't embarrass himself. & in normal circumstance. Dobbs would be the guy.
DTR isn't normal circumstance. The kid was a star at UCLA. Size & build are maybe concerning. But that kid can flat out ball it!
So- it's that DTR surpassed expectations more than mond is junk( altho- he likely is junk)
Dobbs was traded to Arizona, and likely becomes the cards starter sooner than later with no timetable on Murrays return from surgery and Colt McCoy being a noodle armed geriatric.
The browns did the smart thing. Clear the path for DTR. I don't have faith that Watson ever regains what he lost- in time, experience & practice these past 30? months.
Mr DT Robinson may very well supplant Watson in the mind of Browns fans before the season is out. Unfortunately for the team- they are tied with carbon steel rope to Deshauns contract for what? 8 years? 5?... I can't recall the length.
Whatever the duration. It was a boob move by a knee jerk owner.
Deshauns head is so far up his own arse- he can't see any receiver breaking open. Maybe, if stefanski is lucky. He finds a surgeon to do an arsectomy in time to save his job....
But it's doubtful.
DTR is clevands future. He is already at game speed. Quite impressive. He just needs Tua's tae-kwondo coach to learn him up on concussion avoidance.
