Florio addressed it again today after an un named team employee emailed him on the topic stating nfl teams are very worried about the direction of the league with nearly all available qb's now trained in spread systems.
I had been wondering if it was just me. I only been sounding the spread alarm for? Ill be generous (to qb's) and call it the past few years. I think its actually been 9-10 years ive been beating the drum.
1 more reason to come with a new acheme that utilizes multiple spread (run 1st) qb's. W/o a doubt. The leg talent qb is an injury waiting to happen. And once Cuz, stafford, Rogers are gone. The pro set qb will be nearly extinct.
The nfl shoul be very worried. When the pay scale reaches 35 mill per year for a middler qb, and almost none will be healthy an entire 18 week season. Add in that the financial incentive for the best specimen linemen, is to play d-line. Their pay scale, for just a good dt/de is near double that of an all-pro center or guard, and still above most ot's.
Which has lead to a big drop in quality of o-line coming from college. Likely, its only going to get worse with the new super conference collegiate training ground.
The golden goose is sliwly roasting atop the fires of greed. The nfl is going to need to go to a minor league system or find a way to implement the talent available in a scheme that scores points. We can only watch so many Bears vikes(12-10) & jets giants 13-9 games before we settle in on frisbee league or the lego challenge as our go to sport.
Some of this stuff is downright comical. Like the ACC- ATLANTIC COAST Conference recruiting 2 pacific coast teams, Cal& Stanford, and a Texas team- SMU.
So much for colleges Trumpeting Carbon Responsibility to their undergrads as well as grad thesis.
The re-alignment if power 5 was for only 1 purpose. Broadcasting revenue.
Never mind the million extra miles of carbon dense air travel.
Such colossal ironic hypocrisy has never before been witnessed. I digress...
Unrelated... Except greed is the common denominator.
I heard this werkend somewhere. Viewership has increased 6% over same nfl time frame of 2022.
Nfl will embrace the good news & change nada. Dont tell the NFL owners that hollywood has been on strike both before & during the 2023 time frame allowing viewers mostly reruns & terrible replacement programming.
As PH repeatedly states- the NFL is King.
Vic adds, until suddenly it's not and 32 owners attend the funeral of a dead tarnished goose.
It is absolutely coming. Perhaps college supplants it? Perhaps something as yet unknown.
What I do know? None of my friends here are nfl fans. Not a 1. A few college. Many college hoops.
Mostly tho. Video games is to these coming generations what sports were for us.
Who can blame them. If i were a kid today?
I doubt id follow any of these millionaire players. I doubt my parents could afford nfl ticket much less tickets for a live game. The demographic data doesnt support a successful nfl model beyond the death of us boomers, and the nfl, mlb, nba- out of self preservation. Refuse to acknowledge the obvious future decline is no longer "maybe". One of these days. The network is going to just say no. Its already begun in mlb.
Meanwhile- college coaches are about to see their wages skyrocket. Everybody ignoring the warning signs in the rush to "get paid while its still paying".
Florio on the subject. " They wont change anything until its too late". Boxing was once king too.... Always was... Until it wasnt.
