He signed 4 yrs @ $160m prior to 2023. $85m guaranteed at signing
$47m cap hit this year to play. .$70m dead cap this year if he's cut. $22m dead cap to cut him in 2025.
They almost must upgrade the O-line & find him some skill players that can catch the dam ball.
The Giants & Daniel Jones are quite the cationary tale concerning drafting that franchise qb without having a bare minimum of decent supporting cast in place. But the G's screwed themselves further by extending him, instead if Tagging him back in 2023.
2019 6th overall pick with near dead on Josh Allen comp. Has gotten beaten like a cartel informant behind the giants O-line as well as overconfident of his size as a runner.
Whats the point of having that 5th year option, if youre not going to use it in the exact scenario as Jones- 3 poor years and then a serviceable year 4.
He wasnt consistent good in 2022. Barely squeaked into the playoffs. And the playoff win vs vikes terrible '22 defense
They didn't tag him tho- instead backloading the extension to have a tiny 2023 cap hit. Instead of the $25m? Qb tag cap hit the 1 year deal would have meant.
Maybe it was a good optimistic move in the moment. It wasnt long into 2023 that buyers remorse became obvious.
I think theyre stuck with him for at least 2024. Nobody will take on that contract via trade.
The neck injury & other injuries in just 3 seasons are as concerning as the contract.
