There goes the neighborhood.
Despite the militias, redneck, KKK vibe of the local population. This area has been great to live in. Oh theres plenty of drawbacks. There isnt a decent restaurant within 50-75 miles. Grocery/fresh produce is challenging. Its hard to find contractors to perform work like pouring concrete, hanging dry wall. But, theres 500 sq miles of natnl forest right out my back door. Critters, birds & wildflowers are abundant. In the peak if summer. I get deer/ elk sleeping on the concrete pad some evenings. The nearest stop light is 35-40 miles away. Hiking trails & fire roads are abundant. Rivers are fed by mntn springs, the water out of my tap is cool crisp & clean.
2k new houses? If thats an avg of 3 ppl per household, that 6k new residents in a town of 1800. The stop lights are a comin. The lack of traffic is about to change. An endless stream of school /infrastructure bonds are sure to follow.
Dammit Jim. Im at that age where moving is not attractive. But I'm not sure I want to stick around for the growing pangs.
I guess im gonna have to get serious about Brookings Oregon. Nice area with negative growth bc its mostly old fvks like me.
Ugh, packing it up is not on my bucket list. Lol.
