Some if the graders thought it was great to grab the guys landed, others thought the draft capital expended- especially on Turner. At the expense of not adding to either of the lines will be a problem. Lack of quality immediate help at cb was also brought up by a few.
Its a bit laughable that almost all of these writers gave the vikings a high "B" to low "A" for the 2024 day 2.
They drafted nobody. Id think "c" would be the highest possible grade. Personally- I'd call it an "F" or Incomplete. Factoring trades as reason for the high grades? Ummm- thatd be a trade grade on Hockinson's lost pick. A trade that was nice in the moment, but is now looking lesser until we see how hockinson comes back from an injury that is often a career changer for TE's. I dont expect the same player when/if he returns this season. Maybe in 2025 he is back to the player he was pre-injury. At minimum, I suspect he plays with less recklessnes, & who can blame him. If he starts peeking ahead as the ball comes in. Drops a few. Becomes less reliable.
And that really is my beef with this draft. Some visible holes- on both lines. At 3rd wr, at TE, at CB- in actuality all these holes remain for the immediate future. Counting on day 3 & day 4 picks to fill those holes isnt a reality for this season. With luck, good coaching, motivated prospects. Maybe one or 3 become decent starters or rotation. I do not see a year 1 impact player from that group like we had in 2023 with Ivan Pace. More likely- theyre all back of the roster special team candidates at best or even more likely practice squad development projects.
Nobody in this draft is an immediate upgrade at any position on the 2023 roster. Not a 1. Ironically- the only player with a chance at being a year 1 upgrade is the oregon cb. Mainly BC the 2023 cb room was one of the worst in the league. It wont take much from any MN. cb to be an upgrade over the moment Andrew Booth was cb 2.
Most likely cb 1-4 is, in no particular order, Murphy, Griffen, Blackmon & Evans. A group that offenses will be scheming to abuse again in 2024.
Ending the draft without addressing so many holes, and in the process, trading off the pucks that might address those holes next year.
I dont know how anybody could call this draft anything more than average. Every team in this draft with 2 or more picks in the 1st 60 landed at least 2 prospects with " possible game changer" in their draft profile.
Isnt that the definition of average?
This draft? An absolute C in my book. Nothing exceptional. And- considering days 3, 4 & next year. I'm tempted to grade it a D.
2025 weighs too heavy on that grade. So I chose C. I'll wait for the D to playout in 2025.
Kwesi to date, 2022 = F, 2023 = C or B. 2024 = C.
2025 is shaping up as, at best a C.
Middler grades for a middler team.
I dont see that as actually trying to "bring championships to impatient/ hungry/ deserving Viking Fans".
I guess it could be worse? The Vikings could have traded up with Tennessee and drafted the center Jurgens @ #7 overall.
*Sigh*... Be careful what I wish for.
I wished for Slick to be replaced.
I didnt believe it possibly to downgrade. The Vikings proved me wrong. Kwesi is beyond bad as a gm. He is a complete disaster.
Helluva PR guy! He can spin & double talk with the best of 'em.
In retrosoect- That Sean Payton trolling?
Payton was being kind. I guarantee, when Kwesi leaves the GM position in Minnesota. He wont get another nfl GM gig. A sniff to placate the rooney rule. But thats all.
